New Construction Excavation in Eastern Idaho

Dirt work for new homes, from the first site walk to backfill, for general contractors, developers, and homeowners.

New home excavation is the work Spring Creek Builds does more than any other. We work with general contractors, developers, and homeowners, and we handle the dirt work on a new build from the first site walk through backfill.

Where We Fit in a New Home Build

Excavation touches almost every stage of a new home. We are involved before the foundation is poured and after it has cured, and in between we coordinate with the concrete crew, the plumber, the well driller, the surveyor, and the other trades. Because we meet with owners and builders throughout a project, we stay in touch as plans change, which they usually do.

The Typical Sequence on a New Home

  1. Pre-site walkthrough. For a buyer who has not closed on the land yet, we can walk the property to help show where the best building location for the home and the well would be.
  2. Test holes for septic. If the home will not be on city sewer, we dig test holes so the health district can evaluate the ground and decide what kind of septic system is needed.
  3. Permits. The homeowner or the general contractor gets the building permits. If you are working with a GC, the GC handles that. Homeowners usually handle their own.
  4. Foundation excavation. The property is surveyed to locate the foundation points, and we excavate to those points. Some builders also ask for a geo survey to confirm the compaction is good for the foundation.
  5. Concrete. The concrete crew forms and pours the foundation.
  6. Underground utilities. We put in the underground utilities that run inside the foundation, then backfill.
  7. Power, water, and sewer. We bring in power for the other contractors, coordinate with the well drilling company or connect to city water, and connect to the city sewer line or put in a septic system.
  8. Driveway and finish prep. If the owner wants it, we build the driveway, and we prep the area around the house for landscaping, patios, or parking.

Septic Comes Last for a Reason

For a home in the country, the septic system usually goes in toward the end of the project, so other contractors do not drive over it. As soon as the plumber has the drain lines ready, we connect the system and run it to the drain field. More on that on our septic system installation page.

For General Contractors and Developers

If you are a general contractor or developer who needs an excavation company for new builds, we work with builders regularly. We show up for the site walk, communicate with you and the owner as things change, and take the dirt work seriously, because the foundation, the utilities, and the finish all depend on it being done right. Send us a message through the contact form with the location and scope, and we will tell you whether it is a fit.

For Homeowners Building Their Own Home

If you are building your own home, we can walk you through the order things happen in and what you will need to line up, such as the building permit and the approved design. If you do not have those yet, it is not a dealbreaker. We are happy to talk it through, although the permit process can take a few weeks on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with general contractors?

Yes. General contractors and developers are a big part of our new construction excavation work, and we also take on homeowners' projects.

What do I need before you can start excavating?

The building permit and a design that has been approved by the city or county. The homeowner or the general contractor is responsible for the building permit. If you do not have them yet, we can still talk it through.

Can you do the septic system on a new build too?

Yes. If the home is not on city sewer, we dig the test holes and install the septic system once the health district has evaluated the site. If the home connects to city sewer, we make that connection.

Do you build driveways?

Yes. If the homeowner wants one, we build the driveway as part of the site work.
